Blackline Group has over 35 years’ collective experience in interior design, costing analysis, joinery and upholstery, project management, construction and project fit out. What began as a small shop fitting operation, quickly grew into the first-choice service provider for retail, commercial and residential fit out projects in South Africa.

The executive team has managed projects in the UK, France, USA, Dubai, Qatar, Bahrain, India, Mali, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Angola and a number of other African countries.

Blackline Group prides itself on delivering high end, award winning, fit out projects that are managed efficiently from start to finish.

JONATHAN BOAS | Founder & Managing Director

My father’s exceptional craftsmanship instilled in me an eye for detail and a desire for perfection from an early age. His 40 years of experience gave me the grounding, understanding and knowledge of the fitout, shopfitting and design industry that has made our business what it is today.

My professional career began at Quanto Bello Interiors in South Africa in 2008. During this time, I adopted a hands on approach to learning all there is to know about this industry. In 2010, I made a decision to embark on a journey to set up Quanto Bello in Qatar with my family and, for the next 3 years, I headed up the Tendering and Projects Department for the Quanto Bello Group. In the end, my love for joinery overruled and I managed and ran the joinery factory for 4 years overseeing all Group projects from 5 star hotel to luxury palace fitouts.

In 2017, I returned to South Africa. I knew I wanted to offer the local and international markets a turnkey solution company for fitout projects. A company that strived for perfection, offering a hands on approach to meet the needs and vision of my clients.

The Blackline Group is a business that is built on family principles. It has been diversified through international experience and wishes to deliver quality and excellence to its customers time and time again. This, coupled with our desire to be market leaders, has resulted in the business aligning itself with some of South Africa’s finest designers and projects.

I have always been invested in delivering excellence to the market knowing that this would continue our family’s good legacy. And so, each day, I remind myself and my team to do it with passion or not at all.

Some of my fondest childhood memories are of my father’s joinery factory. This is where my endless love for the transformation of timber started. After completing my design studies in 2001, I joined our family fitout company where my passion for design met my love for timber. 

Over the last 20 years, I have delivered on projects locally and abroad in the retail, commercial, residential and hospitality industries; designing, procuring and project managing some of the finest interiors worldwide. My experience spans from the tip of Africa across Europe to the Middle East and India. This international experience has allowed me to grow, professionally and personally, and has further pushed me to diversify my knowledge, skill set and understanding of the industry. I have been a key member of teams that delivered projects to high end fashion brands, international museums, boutique salons and five star dining venues. In addition to this wealth of experience, I have also contributed to certain Middle East design publications as a freelance writer.

Fitout is not a one dimensional offering. It requires a complex understanding of culture, design, style, technique, religion, geographical positioning, markets, client requirements, product availability, language and budget. The industry requires that we adapt to meet trends and expectations, while in the same breath, maintain the essence of who we are.

With our positive and motivated outlook to life, as well as the fortune of working with our dynamic family and team, I believe we constantly strive to add value to an industry which is everchanging and evolving.
